Practice finding a common denominator and adding or subtracting fractions — a fresh, always-unlike-denominator pair every time.

Grade 5, Number & Operations—Fractions, Cluster A (use equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions). The standard asks students to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing the given fractions with equivalent fractions that share a common denominator.
Scope note: every problem on this page uses two fractions with genuinely different denominators (2–12), so the common-denominator step is always required. Proper fractions only — mixed numbers aren't generated here yet.
Builds directly on Grade 4's equivalent-fraction concept (4.NF.A) and leads into 5.NF.B.4's fraction multiplication.
