What 7.G.B.6 Covers

Grade 7, Geometry, Cluster B (solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume). The full standard asks students to solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the area, volume, and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.

Scope note: this generator currently practices the 2D area half of 7.G.B.6: decomposing a composite figure built from rectangles and triangles into its parts and summing their areas. Volume and surface area of composite 3D solids (cubes, right prisms) aren't part of this tool yet — pair this page with a volume/surface-area lesson to cover the standard in full.

Where It Fits

Builds directly on 6.G.A.1's individual area formulas for rectangles and triangles — 7.G.B.6 asks students to apply those same formulas more than once on a single figure and combine the results. It's also the natural 2D companion to 8.G.C.9's volume of solids, which applies the same "break it into known pieces" strategy in three dimensions.
